Abstract:Objective To translate and test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Questionnaire for Eating-Related Distress among Patients with advanced cancer (QERD-P). Methods The QERD-P was translated and adapted to Chinese culture according to the Brislin translation model, and the Chinese version of the QERD-P was formed through a pre-survey. A total of 428 patients diagnosed with advanced cancer were selected by convenience sampling as the participants for the survey. Among them, 170 cases were used to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of QERD-P and 258 cases were used for confirmatory factor analysis. Results The Chinese version of the QERD-P consists of 7 dimensions with 20 entries. The Cronbach′s α of the scale was 0.897, and the retest reliability coefficient was 0.837. Exploratory factor analysis extracted 7 factors(reduced dietary intake,causes of dietary disorders,physical weakness,insufficient knowledge of nutritional intake,intra-family food conflict,changes in appearance and body shape,time with family), and the factor loadings of each entry ranged from 0.770 to 0.923. The 7 factors combined could explain 86.076% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that, χ2/df=2.440,RMSEA=0.075,CFI=0.955,TLI=0.942,IFI=0.955,RFI=0.906,GFI=0.878. Conclusion The Chinese version of the QERD-P has acceptable reliability and validity, and can be used as a reliable tool to assess eating-related distress in advanced cancer patients.
