Objective To explore the effect of using the early warning function of Days Mater software to enhance automatic management of item expiry date in a hospital of stomatology. Methods The medical products from the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery were divided into two categories: medical equipment and consumables（subdivided into commonly-used and less-used classes）. All basic data of the expiry dates of the equipment and less-used consumables were input into the software and the reminders were set up. The time nurses spent to check the expiry dates of these medical products before and 3 months into the usage of the software was compared. Results Before use, the time for monthly check of valid date of the medical products averaged （97.03±3.63） min, which was significantly longer than that after use（26.73±1.19） min （P＜0.01）. Conclusion The Days Matter software is easy to use, and can accurately monitor the expiry dates of medical products, achieve data sharing, and reduce inspection time and the cost.
