Objective To explore the effect of applying standardized patients combined with debriefing in simulation teaching of midwifery. Methods A total of 101 students enrolled in 2017 for the three-year midwifery program were selected as the study subjects. Students were divided into an intervention group(n=52) and a control group (n=49) by using a random drawing method. The control group was subjected to traditional simulation teaching method while the intervention group to a program which combined standardized patient and debriefing. At completion of the course, the DASH scoring system and theory and skill tests were used for evaluation. Results The students′ DASH total and dimension scores were significantly higher than teachers′ scores. The theory and skill test total scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than the control group(P<0.01 for all). Conclusion The use of standardized patients combined with debriefing can improve students′ classroom participation and enthusiasm, and enhance students′ theory and field test scores, which is beneficial to the quality of midwifery teaching.
