Abstract:Objective To determine the effect of ′LoShu square′guided abdominal meridian massage combined with oral administration of Cistanche solution on relief of constipation in patients with thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture (TVCF). Methods Sixty patients with functional constipation after TVCF were equally randomized into two groups. The control group received Cistanche solution orally and the experimental group additionally received ′LoShu square′guided abdominal meridian massage during 3 consequent days. The therapeutic effect, time to first defecation, defecation interval, and the number of defecations during 72 h were compared between the two groups. Results The experimental group showed better therapeutic effect, earlier first defecation, shorter defecation interval, and an increased defecation frequency during 72 h compared with the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion Application of ′LoShu square′guided abdominal meridian massage combined with oral administration of Cistanche solution can effectively relieve constipation in patients with TVCF.
