Abstract:Objective To comprehend fear of progression and hope level among elderly cancer patients, and investigate the correlation between them. Methods A questionnaire survey of 226 elderly cancer patients was conducted with the denographic questionnaire, the Chinese version of Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF) and the Herth Hope Scale (HHI).Results The total score of fear of progression in elderly cancer patients was (35.04±6.49), and the overall hope level was (34.93±5.07).The dimension scores and total score of fear of progression in elderly cancer patients were significantly negatively correlated with the counterparts of hope scores (P<0.01 for all).Conclusion Elderly cancer patients have a high level of fear of disease progression, which has a significant negative correlation with the level of hope. Meanwhile improvement of hope level can alleviate the level of fear of progression.
